Things to do in Ventura
A sweet escape just north of Los Angeles, Ventura is a beautiful coastal city that has so much to offer to its residents. Known for its beaches and the long, wooden Ventura Pier, fisherman and boat enthusiasts often set sail from Ventura Harbor for Channel Islands National Park, a habitat that homes exotic foxes and scrub jays.
The residents of Ventura have benefited from its natural water source since 1782. The Ventura River flows through the steep hills of Ventura County and leads straight to the Pacific Ocean. Historically, as the town continued to evolve with modern innovations, it turned into an automobile hub in the 1920s, then flourishes as an agricultural town.
Ventura has a lovely arts festival every year, as well as offers different destinations to enjoy on the weekends. A staple of Ventura City is the ‘Two Trees’ which are lone trees visible for most of the city. Unfortunately, one of the trees was damaged in 2017, but you can still enjoy the marvel that has been there for generations. You can also enjoy Plaza Park, which has many beautiful murals and local shops.
Ventura has a number of museums across the city like the Olivas Adobe, an early ‘California-rancho’- styled home that now operates as a museum and a live performance center. Families can enjoy lively historical reenactments that show us what life was like during this time. You can also view Ventura’s ornate city hall that features a statue of Junipero Serra. Downtown Venture has many wine bars, restaurants, and the Rubicon Theatre Company.
