Things to do in Calabasas
Calabasas is a city in Los Angeles County, located in the hills west of the San Fernando Valley and in the northwest Santa Monica Mountains between Woodland Hills, Agoura Hills, West Hills, Hidden Hills, and Malibu. If you enjoy nature, visit Malibu Creek State Park. Used as a setting for many television shows and movies, this park offers every type of backdrop from volcanic cliffs and babbling creeks to gorges and waterfalls. The venue is only 25 miles from downtown Los Angeles, and features fishing, hiking, bird watching, horseback riding, rock climbing and just enjoying nature. The creek itself runs for 14 miles and is the principal watercourse of the Santa Monica Mountains that ends at the Malibu Lagoon. Visitors will see spectacular vistas, volcanic rock gores, breathtaking views and scenic pools.
Culturally, the Malibu Creek State Park was the home of the Chumash Native Americans for centuries. One of the significant points of interest is the Sepulveda Adobe which was constructed in 1863 on what was part of the Spanish land grant. The structure was restored in 2003 but was sadly destroyed in the Woolsey fire of 2018. With only one fireplace left standing, the Mott Adobe ruins still exist.
The Malibu Hindu Temple, a temple of the Hindu god Venkateswara, built in 1981, is located in the city of Calabasas too. It is owned and operated by the Hindu Temple Society of Southern California. King Gillette Ranch has sprawling land in the heart of Malibu Creek Watershed offers 1920s architecture, views & hiking. The Leonis Adobe, built in 1844, is one of the oldest surviving private residences in LA and one of the oldest surviving buildings in the San Fernando Valley. Located in what is now Calabasas, the adobe was occupied by the wealthy rancher Miguel Leonis until his death.
Another fun place to visit is the Calabasas Commons. It is a retail and entertainment complex at the heart of Calabasas. It was built and is owned by Rick Caruso and his company Caruso Affiliated. It has become a tourist destination for celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and others who are seen at the very high end shopping center.
For your home or office interiors, make sure you visit The Sliding Door Company in nearby Chatsworth, CA.
